I've installed Mathematica 9 on Athena. From my message to users:
Mathematica 9.0 has been installed on Athena. You can run it now by
typing "add math", followed by:
mathematica -ver 9.0 & (for the GUI)
math -ver 9.0 (for the command-line interface)
This is a major update, with many new features; see
http://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/new-in-9/
for details. Regrettably, the new link to R feature is currently broken
on debathena and Ubuntu machines; we don't have any information as to
when this will be fixed.
We plan to make it the default during IAP 2013.
