I've installed Matlab 8.0 (R2012b) on Athena. This is a major release,
with many significant changes. In particular the Matlab Desktop has
undergone major redesign and has a substantially different
look-and-feel. This version won't be made the default until at least IAP
2013.

>From my message to users:

Matlab 8.0 has been installed (they also call it R2012b). Many of the
Toolboxes have been updated (use Matlab "ver" command for versions).
As before, the lpsolve linear programming solver and Maple Toolbox
have been added to the locker.

lpsolve documentation is at:

https://web.mit.edu/matlab_v8.0/distrib/toolbox/contrib/lpsolve/MATLAB.htm

A new set of emacs modes is available in the newemacs/matlab-emacs
subdirectory; see
https://web.mit.edu/matlab_v8.0/newemacs/www/index.shtml
for information.

Release notes are available in the internal help system, or at the
Mathworks Web site:

http://www.mathworks.com/help/base/relnotes/index.html
http://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab/whatsnew.html

To run 8.0 now:

        add matlab
        matlab -ver 8.0

Please let us know if you encounter significant problems or bugs by
writing to the 3partysw@mit.edu mailing list.

                                         Alex
