I've installed hfsutils-3.2.6 in the hfstools locker for
sun4x_57, i386_linux22, and sgi_65; hfsutils is a collection of
utilities designed to allow users to read and write to HFS (MacOS
filesystem) formatted media. hfsutils works entirely in user space, and
requires no kernel support.
Using these programs, it will no longer be necessary to use an
Athena SGI to read HFS formatted media. The two most useful programs in
the locker to users are likely to be "hfs" and "xhfs". "xhfs" is a TCL
based graphical file browser. To run it, type:
add hfstools
xhfs &
Documentation is available in the form of a man page. "hfs" is a
similar program, but is implemented as a tty based interactive program.
It can be run as:
add hfstools
hfs
For advanced users, there also exist commands that are analagous to the
equivalent DOS command, but with an "h" prepended, i.e., hdir, hcopy,
etc. (this is very reminiscent of the mtools commands).
Please try them out; questions, comments, and bug reports
should be sent to me.
