Due to a perceived need and a few hours of vaguely free time, I have
brought into being a simple client-server system to allow users to log
themselves out from a workstation remotely. To use it, place the line
attachandrun sipb zlogoutd zlogoutd &
in your appropriate startup dotfile (e.g., under Athena, .startup.X and
.startup.tty). To remotely end a session on the machine HOST.MIT.EDU,
type
add sipb ; zlogout HOST.MIT.EDU
at any athena% prompt.
zlogoutd supports an optional delay-before-logout: if it is invoked
instead as:
attachandrun sipb zlogoutd zlogoutd -d 15 &
for example, then zlogoutd will begin a 15-second countdown after
"zlogout HOST.MIT.EDU" is executed. To cancel the countdown, type
add sipb ; zlogout -c
at any athena% prompt; if the countdown finishes, the user will be
logged out of HOST.MIT.EDU.
Finally, zlogoutd's "-e COMMAND" option causes zlogoutd to execute some
other command than end_session.
Bugs should be reported to bug-sipb@mit.edu.
