I've updated Matlab on Athena to 7.6 (R2008a). From my message to users:
Matlab 7.6 has been installed on Athena (they also call it
R2008a). Many of the Toolboxes have been updated (use Matlab "ver"
command for versions). As before, the lpsolve linear programming
solver has been added to the locker (but Linux only, due to
compilation problems with the Sun version). The snopt solver may
also be invoked within Matlab.
When launching the Linux version on Athena, you will get a warning
message about glibc versions; the Mathworks states that Matlab R2008a
will in fact run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (the basis for the
current Linux-Athena version). Most things appear to work, but we've
only done limited testing.
lpsolve documentation is at:
https://web.mit.edu/matlab_v7.6/distrib/toolbox/contrib/lpsolve/MATLAB.htm
Release notes are available in the internal help system, or at the
Mathworks Web site:
http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/base/relnotes/
To run it now:
add matlab
matlab -ver 7.6
It will not be made the default version until after the end of the current
semester.
And on a related note, we aren't planning to update student Matlab to this
release until Summer 2008.
