SAGE, a free alternative to mathematics software such as Maple,
Mathematica, Matlab, and Magma, in now available in the SAGE locker on
Athena for Linux-Athena and Debathena etch (the same build is running on
both, so probably it'll work on most Linux platforms). SAGE includes
around 50 free mathematics software libraries* and lets you access them
via a friendly ipython interface. You can read more about it at
<http://sagemath.org>.

You can access sage by typing "add sage" and then "sage" on Athena.

Like mathematica and friends, it takes 30+ seconds to load into your AFS
cache when you first start it on a given machine. After that it starts in
around 2 seconds (so if you don't want to wait, run it on linerva.mit.edu
where it is already in cache).
