The Sun Java Studio 1.0 graphical, "drag-and-drop" Java development
environment has been installed on Athena for Suns (no SGI or Linux
versions currently available). Please read file
/mit/studio/README.athena for licensing and other information.
It is based on an internal, integrated copy of JDK release
1.1.3. There is no feasible way to have it use newer releases of the
JDK, such as the 1.1.6 release currently installed on Athena.
To use it, do:
add studio; js &
at the Athena prompt. At first launch, it will create a
directory .js1.0 in the user's home directory that contains some
configuration information and data (including a flag that the
user has read the license). It will save your project files with a .vj
extension in a directory of your choosing.
You will have problems if you start using pulldown menu commands before
the GUI interface initializes fully (you will get at least 2 windows in
addition to the first that appears when this is done).
Printing will not work; workaround: print to a file and lpr the file.
Any installation or configuration problems should be reported directly
to me.
