Matlab 5.1 is now available on Athena for testing. Sun, Linux and SGI
versions are available. To run it now, do "add matlab_v5.1; matlab" or
"add matlab.new; matlab -ver 5.1". Within a few weeks, "add matlab;
matlab -ver 5.1" will work and is the preferred way to run it, as per
the new Athena locker configuration guidelines.
Running the SGI version causes a message about "unsupported operating
system" to be printed, but everything seems to work. The Matlab
compiler is not yet available in 5.1 but is expected in the future. We
expect that this release will supersede the recently installed Matlab
5.0 release, which did not include SGI. This release does not currently
run on NetBSD machines.
This version will not be made the default in the near future, but we
intend to keep it available.
There is a new external help system that is accessed via the command
"matlabdoc" from the UNIX prompt- it has a number of options- "matlabdoc -h"
will display them. Much of the documentation is in HTML and Acrobat format,
and I believe complete doc sets are available in Acrobat.
If you encounter configuration or installation problems please report
them to the 3partysw@mit.edu mailing list.
