Fvwm version 2 is now available in the outland locker. It is
available for Sun, SGI, Linux, and NetBSD platforms. To try it:
add outland
fvwm2 &
If you want to change your window manager to fvwm, you can place
the appropriate lines in you ~/.environment file. I'd recommend:
add outland
if ( -r `athdir /afs/sipb/project/outland`/fvwm2 ) then
setenv WINDOW_MANAGER 'fvwm2'
else
setenv WINDOW_MANAGER 'mwm'
endif
Fvwm is (yet another) window manager for X11. It is a derivative
of twm, redesigned to minimize memory consumption, provide a 3-D
look to window frames, and provide a simple virtual desktop.
Memory consumption is estimated at about one-half the memory
consumption of twm.
Some nice features of Fvwm are:
A large virtual desktop, and multiple disjoint desktops.
Fvwm is dynamically extensible via modules.
Features can be changed on the fly, while the window manager
is running.
Features can be changed on a per-window basis.
For the interested, fvwm's configuration file is in
/mit/outland/share/lib/fvwm2/system.fvwm2rc
Enjoy. Please send suggestions or bug reports to either
