Before I start: I'm always reluctant to send mail to star-maintainers
because it pollutes a bunch of different discuss archives. Are there
objections to creating a separate mailing list and discuss archive for
machine-room issues which span all the services, with the
understanding that it would reach basically all server maintainers but
be archived separately? I'd probably call it sipb-machine-room. We'd
have to remember to add new machine room service maintainers to
sipb-machine-room as well as the appropriate service list.
Anyway, what I really want to discuss is shelving in the machine room.
Right now we are very cramped, and we have three new machines which
will need to be housed in the next few months. I would like to spend
some FY98 money on a shelving unit to help alleviate our space
concerns.
I think it would be easiest if we brought in a 24" unit to start with,
since we could probably shoehorn that in the place of one of the
rolling tables and not get rid of any of our desks, something we
couldn't easily do with a 72" unit. One possibility is Mayline
shelving (http://www.mayline.com/mprod.html#maytrix), which looks
configurable and easy to use. It would probably be in the $500 to
$1000 range (unlikely to be a problem) and hold two machines with
heads and disks, I'm guessing.
