Hello, Pam; sorry it took so long for someone to get back to you.
The problem is pretty simple: when the three new people got accounts,
they were given accounts in the `normal' way, which includes a
homedir. Typically SIPB provides that space, and it's probably a good
idea for us to continue doing so for these three. We'll have to
arrange a move, but in the meantime nothing is really harmed by the
difference. If any of the three knows about AFS, or anyone gets a
chance to explain it to them, the directories that will become theirs
already exist, in what you would expect to be the normal place, Pam.
They're welcome to go ahead and use those now, although they might
need to `aklog sipb' once per login first, until we get the defaults
changed.
Accounts: these three users (elfchief, jdv, yshapira) need to have
their default homedirs moved, and they most likely don't know a lot
about athena. How can we best arrange this? SIPB can help explain
the transition, and Pam in particular can probably help them (or find
someone who can). If accounts would like temporary all access to
their homedirs in order to simplify the move, that can be arranged.

A short while ago, emhavens requested SIPB cell homedirs for yshapira,
jdv, and elfchief, which were created. However, I'm not positive that
what was done is what we (the *.answers moderators) needed. I'm also
a non-MIT person with a SIPB guest account for *.answers moderation,
exactly the same situation as these three folks. My homedir is in
/afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/pgreene
whereas theirs appear to be
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/y/s/yshapira
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/j/d/jdv
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/e/l/elfchief
I admit that I'm not extremely familiar with the AFS setup around
here, but this certainly doesn't look like the same place. Am I just
confused?
