I've moved the DLT drive to portnoy.  I've also run the cleaning tape
and marked the old full2 tape as "dead", since it seems to be nearing
the end of its useful life.  I am dumping onto a fresh new tape, which
hasn't encountered errors yet.  Hopefully it will succeed.

As for why the drive doesn't report errors and instead does bogus
things like timing out and resetting the SCSI bus.... I'll have to
talk to either Falcon or Quantum about that.

Another thing to do is to disassemble the drive and perhaps dust it
out with compressed air or with the office vacuum.
