After digging around in the sources for a while, it turns out that the
major version number for a budb structure changed between
3.4a.patches.1 and 3.4a.patches.2 (as they're called in the afsdev
locker). Basically the backup client wasn't lying when it said there
was an incompatible interface. Could someone recompile buserver for
SunOS 4.1.x with the same sources that we're running on rosebud (which
is I *think* running 3.4.a.patches.4...)?
