I'm a little concerned about the list of needs and wants that we've
developed. I'm concerned that we may be leaving too much to upgrade
next year. The first thing that I'm concerned about is that we havent
gotten any really powerful machines since 6/94 when we got 3 SS20s.
It would probably be a good idea to try to avid replacing these all at
once (even tho we got them that way.) I suppose we do have on the
want list a relatively powerful machine for www, but I wonder if we
might be better off upgrading one of the existing ss20's first (beacon
seems hosed, but no one knows why.)
the other thing that bothers me is that we're planning to continue
running discuss/NFS on a DECstation. ASO is trying to get rid of all
of their DEC servers, and I think SIPB ought to consider this too.
I also found out today, that people want a fairly accurate list of
what we expect to buy this fiscal year in about 3 weeks, so we should
get moving on firming up our plans.
