This is not an answer to Jonathon's mail; this is all short-term
stuff, and it's just to let people know what's going on.
Here are the purchases I plan to ask to be made out of the server
budget for SIPB servers early next week. I mentioned some of these
in recent mail sent to usenet:
* Four 7200rpm 1GB disks for beacon, to improve performance.
I'm not yet sure about the enclosures for these disks. We
probably want something better than the standard half-height
enclosures; I'll probably price a four-disk enclosure,
possibly of the kind Matt Power uses at work.
* A 4GB disk for bed, to consolidate some of the 1GB Fujitsu
disks. Probably 5400rpm.
* A 4GB disk for penguin-lust, for general storage. Probably
5400rpm.
* 15 short SCSI cables of the kind ops uses for their AFS
servers.
* Maybe some terminators, depending on how easy it is to price
them out.
I'm guessing the total cost will be less than $5500.
