Okay.. now I'm confused...
  teh volume really has no replicas.. they were taken off.
However, there is replica turd :

[i-see-everything-twice,4:54am]->vos ex 536875612 -c sipb
system.inbsd.usrX11R6o            536875612 RW      60741 K  On-line
    ROSEBUD2.MIT.EDU /vicepc
    RWrite  536875612 ROnly  536875613 Backup  536875614

    81 accesses in the past day (i.e., vnode references)

    RWrite: 536875612     Backup: 536875614
    number of sites -> 1
       server ROSEBUD2.MIT.EDU partition /vicepc RW Site

[i-see-everything-twice,4:54am]->vos ex system.inbsd.usrX11R6o.readonly -c sipb
    RWrite: 536875612     Backup: 536875614
    number of sites -> 1
       server ROSEBUD2.MIT.EDU partition /vicepc RW Site

Okay.. it thinks the thing is there.. shouldn't be. Note the
volume id numbers are the same.

From experiments on the zone cell, matt and I guessed that it was some
new AFS failure, and well, we tried a syncvldb, and that didn't help.
I don't really want to try anything major with the SIPB cell for fear
of real corruption.

Any ideas (this is easily reproduced : just remove a readonly copy
from a volume)
