Our disk problems

After some effort, I could not find any good way of testing our
external Seagate 4GB disk that would expose its performance problem.
As such, I think we should rely on the evidence we have, which is that
we have two disks exhibiting separate and repeatable failure symptoms.
We should probably treat this as a multiple disk failure.
I'm going to call R^2 technical support tomorrow and get replacements
for the disk. Since we've had a Seagate drive failure (we think), I
don't plan to swap the Micropolis disk for a Seagate.
