The M.I.T. Student Activities Midway is Tuesday, August 29th, from 6pm
to 8pm in the Johnson Sports Center Ice Rink. We have a table. If you
can come by and talk to people, that'd be great. Andrew and I are
planning to be there to demo OS/2 and answer questions about OS/2 and
the User Group. (Give me a call if you have one of those TV/VCR combos
that you can lend us... we need one).

We are still looking for someone who is willing to run a "New User
Introduction" sometime in September. I have the instructional
videotapes to show, we just need someone to show them. Contact me if
you can do this, and I'll schedule the room and help you organize it.

John Maglio has written a great paper describing how to use OS/2 Warp
with Tether, M.I.T.'s dialup PPP service. It will be available soon on
the webpage. What we *really* need is more of these papers, describing
how to use OS/2 at M.I.T. Example topics could include

How to configure Warp Connect for ResNet
How to get Latex, Emacs, and GNU utilities for OS/2
How to get a free compiler (gcc or emx) for OS/2
Must have freeware/shareware programs for M.I.T. users

If you could write a short description like this that we could put on
the webpage, and hand out hardcopies at the Activities Midway or at
future user group meetings, it would be *greatly* appreciated. If you
have some favorite freeware/shareware that you would like to share, let
me know and we'll find some space for it in the "os2" athena locker.

The next meeting of the MIT OS/2 USERS GROUP will be Thursday, Sept. 21
at 5pm in MIT room 2-105. Jonathan Levine from OS/2 File Management
Solutions Inc. will be here to demo OS2TREE, a file manager that is
"what XTREE is to DOS and what Norton Commander missed in OS/2". We
will have a quick live demo of IBM's Voice Dictation software to finish
last month's topic, and will also will have Q&A with Pankaj.

Also, we are looking to place some ads in the campus newspapers this
fall. If you have any insider connections, let me know.

--> Kent Lundberg, Director
    M.I.T. OS/2 Users Group
