The last I knew IBM did not support peer to peer networking for OS/2.
However, if you purchase the IBM TCP/IP stack for OS/2 you can get the NFS
client and server as well. This will allow your user to share file systems
and printers. There are some well known security risks associated with NFS
but there are risks with most, if not all, peer to peer systems.
This system will also allow you to run winsock applications on the Windows
subsystem so you will be able to run the CAO applications. You will also be
able to access MITnet and the Internet using this package.
By being on MITnet you will be able to have remote dialin access in the
future. IS is working on a PPP/ARAP dialup service. Or you could set up
your own SLIP server on a departmental workstation.
It's unclear if this setup would provide you with the type of client server
access that you are looking for. You should probably describe what you want
to the users group on campus and ask if any of them have tried to do
similar tasks.
