============
Introduction
============
CDWriter Utilities 2000 has been designed to give you all the tools you
need to get the most out of your CD Recorder. All CDRecorders come with
standard burning software that will let you make your own CD's, but often
this software is only a small part of what you need when you want to do
a variety of jobs. Below is a brief description of each section you see
on the menu and how it may be useful.

=============
Platform
=============
Win 95, 98, NT, 2000

BURNERS
-------
This software is for creating your own CD's. As mentioned above, your CD
Recorder already came with burner software. We have gone beyond this and
offer you several other burner options. Most notable is "CDRWin" which
is the most powerful CDWriting software available. It is professional
grade, so while it is not always as simple to use as the software that
came with your Recorder, it is much much more powerful. Use this program
when you attempt to copy copy-protected discs (like games, and Playstation
CD's.) For exact and detailed information about copying those
hard-to-copy CD's, check out the "CD Faq" in the FAQ section of the menu.

RIPPERS
-------
These programs let you digitally extract audio from any audio CD. This
technique produces a .WAV file that is an exact digital copy of the
original track. From here, you can drag the .WAV file into your burner
software to create your own audio CD. CDDAE is very good and works
without limitations. DVD Speed Ripper lets you "rip" tracks from a
DVD! You need a DVD-ROM drive on your computer to use it but it works
great. You can now put these video streams on several CDR's for back
up purposes. Another excellent program is "Blind Read". This will
read a heavily copy-protected CD (like a Playstation CD or a game CD)
and make an image of it. It reads "through" the errors (that is, it
does not choke on an error and stop!) and the CD image it outputs can
be used in your CD burning program. Or just use CDRWin!

LABELING
--------
This is self-explanatory. CDR Labeler is the best available and will
produce very nice jewel-case inserts for your CDR's.

MISC. UTILITIES
---------------
CDSCan, Disc Catalog, and Discomania are all disc catalogers. They will
help you keep track of your CDR collection. Find the one you are most
comfortable with, all of them are good.

CD Protector and Freelock allow you to make copy-protected CD's of your
own. Follow the instructions in each program for more information.

The Generic Safedisc crack is a "crack" for the Safedisc copy-protection
developed by Sony. Many PC Games are protected using this method. It is
easily circumvented (for backup purposes only) by making an error free
copy of the original (using CDRWin) and then running the Generic Safedisc
crack before inserting the copy. The Securerom crack works the same way.
Check the info files within each program for more information on how
to use these programs.

Winzip is included here for use in extracting or unzipping other files
in the unsorted folder.

DRIVERS
-------
Of course here you will find many updated drivers for CD-ROM and CDR
drives.
