STRATEGIC FOCUS COMPLETES LAB EVALUATION OF
Oracle Developer/2000, 2.1

October 19th, 1998 Milpitas, CA.. Strategic Focus, Inc. a Software
Evaluation and Market Research firm based in Milpitas, California
announced today the completion of a hands on laboratory evaluation
of the Oracle Developer/2000, 2.1 release. The evaluation of this
latest release from Oracle of its Web Application Development tool was
conducted by professional software developers by building a Web based
Order Entry application with the tool. The tool was tested on a
detailed set of criteria which included Developer Productivity,
Performance, Ease of Use, Server Side Features, Client Side Features,
Web GUI Features, Security, Web Server Access and Application
Maintainability..

"There are some significant differences between the Developer/2000 2.0
version which we had evaluated earlier and the current 2.1 release"
said Mr. Jay Prakash, President and Principal Consultant at Strategic
Focus. " For example, Oracle has solved the problem of different
browsers having different versions of Java implementations by
introducing a new product called JInitiator which can be downloaded
and installed in the browser as a standard plug-in.. What this product
does is that it ensures a consistent Java Virtual Machine between
different releases of the browsers" he added.

Some of the other differences between the 2.0 and 2.1 releases are:

=B7 Oracle has now provided built in capabilities to provide its own
Scalability and Load Balancing services when the applications are
implemented on the Web. This feature is separate from similar
services provided by the Oracle Web Application Server.

=B7 Oracle now provides the capability to package the application for
deployment . The Delivery Wizard in the Project Builder can generate
the necessary scripts so that the application can be installed using
the Oracle Installer.

=B7 Oracle Developer/2000 2.1 is now much more closely integrated with
Oracle's CASE tool Designer/2000, 2.1 with a new concept called "round
trip engineering".

Strategic Focus evaluated both the Developer/2000, 2.1 as well as the
Oracle Web Application Server 4.0. The evaluators found the strengths
of the Developer/2000, 2.1 to be in a number of areas. The tool
received particularly high marks in the facilities that it provides
to convert traditional Client/Server applications to Web applications,
Performance, Application Maintainability , WebServer Access, and Cross
Platform Support. However, at the time of evaluation, the Oracle Web
Application Server had not yet been integrated with Developer/2000 and
the company has indicated that the integration with full
inter-cartridge communication services will take place by first half
of 1999.

Strategic Focus has conducted detailed evaluations of a number of
other Web Application Development tools such as NetDynamics 4.0,
Apptivity Developer 3.0, IBM's VisualAge for Java, Apple's WebObjects
3.5, etc. Abstracts of the results of our evaluations can be viewed at
the Strategic Focus web site http://www.strategicfocus.com.

Strategic Focus also recently completed a two volume multi-client
study on the "Trends in Web & Java Application Development Markets" in
USA and Europe. Key findings of this study can also be viewed at the
Strategic Focus web site.
