The Service Pak for OS/2 v2.1 is now available. The official IBM
announcement follows. It is available on the net and from IBM.
Since it is 30 megabytes of *.dsk files, and having all 40 of us
download it and copy it separately would be a huge bandwidth-sink and
time-sink, I will try to find a temporary local repository for it that
is accessiable to the MIT community. (It will probably start out in
/mit/bitbucket/CSD, and then move to the /mit/os2 locker (maybe))
(If you have another suggestion, *please* let me know).
Please stay tuned for more information. If you make disks (or buy the
CD-ROM version), and you're willing to let someone else borrow them,
post to the discuss meeting (rather than over email) and lend them out
to other members of the MIT OS/2 USERS GROUP (or send email to me).

IBM OS/2 2.1 SERVICEPAK (XR06200) AVAILABLE

The IBM OS/2 2.1 SERVICEPAK, LEVEL XR06200, is available for immediate
electronic downloading for customers using OS/2 VERSION 2.1. Starting
March 1, 1994, this servicepak will be available for ordering in both
diskette and CD-ROM formats. This servicepak does not apply to
customers using OS/2 VERSION 2.1 FOR WINDOWS. The servicepak contains
fixes for problems reported by customers since OS/2 2.1 was distributed
in June of 1993.
The servicepak is designed to be applied to:
O OS/2 2.1 AS RELEASED IN JUNE, 1993
O OS/2 2.1 PRELOADED SYSTEMS
This servicepak does NOT apply to customers using OS/2 VERSION 2.1
FOR WINDOWS. Although a servicepak for OS/2 VERSION 2.1 FOR WINDOWS
will be made available shortly, the information in this announcement
applies only to the OS/2 VERSION 2.1 product that was made available
in June of 1993.
ORDERING THE SERVICEPAK
-----------------------
You may download diskettes of the servicepak electronically or,
starting March 1, 1994, you may order either the diskettes or CD-ROM of
the servicepak by mail. You may make as many copies of the servicepak
as you have licensed copies of OS/2 2.1. You may distribute copies to
other properly licensed OS/2 2.1 owners.
A booklet of installation instructions is included with the servicepak.
A "READ ME" file, called README, contains technical considerations.
DOWNLOADING ELECTRONICALLY:
Electronic delivery of the servicepak is available from the following
electronic bulletin board systems if you have high-speed communications
to download the diskette images:
o IBM OS2BBS - If you are a subscriber to the OS2BBS, you may
download the servicepak. the servicepak is located in the SOFTWARE
DOWNLOAD LIBRARY. If you are not a subscriber to the OS2BBS and
wish to subscribe, please call 1-800-547-1283.
o COMPUSERVE - Members of the COMPUSERVE information service may
download the servicepak from the IBM OS2 FORUM LIBRARY (GO IBMSERV).
o INTERNET - Customers having access to INTERNET services can download
the servicepak from the network. Customers should do an anonymous
FTP from "SOFTWARE.WATSON.IBM.COM". The servicepak is located in
the "/PUB/OS2" DIRECTORY.
o IBM PERSONAL COMPUTER COMPANY BBS - Customers may call the IBM
Personal Computer Company BBS by dialing (919) 517-0001 via your
communications modem.
o TOOLCAT OS2CSD (IBM INTERNAL ONLY) - IBM EMPLOYEES with access to the
IBM NETWORK may download the servicepak from the OS2CSD DEPOSITORY.
Some of these systems may not be available outside the United States.
If these bulletin board systems are not available in your country,
you can contact your service representative or the place where you
purchased OS/2 2.1.
ORDERING BY MAIL (STARTING MARCH 1, 1994)
Starting March 1, 1994, if you reside in the U.S. and do not have access
to any of the electronic bulletin board systems, or, if you need the
servicepak delivered on diskettes OR CD-ROM, you may order the
servicepak by calling 1-800-494-3044 and charging the shipping and
handling fees to your credit card. You may also pay by check or
purchase order. A two-day express mail service is used to deliver the
servicepak.
The diskette version of the servicepak consists of twenty-one 3-1/2
inch diskettes or twenty-five 5-1/4-inch diskettes. It will be shipped
for a non-refundable fee of $40.00 plus tax to cover the cost of the
material, shipping and handling. The CD-ROM version costs a non-
refundable $40.00 plus tax.
When ordering, please specify:
1.Whether you want the 3-1/2-inch diskette, 5-1/4-inch diskette, or
CD-ROM version of the servicepak. NOTE: If you want diskettes, be
sure to order the size that is bootable on your machine (i.e.,
typically the size of your "A" diskette drive).
2.A business or home street address (NOT a P.O. BOX). The 2-day
express mail service cannot deliver to a P.O. Box)
3.A current credit card name, expiration date and number to which
the fee will be charged.
4.Whether you choose to pay by check.
5.Whether you choose to pay by purchase order.
