I assume you are referring to these name servers:
gtefsd.com. 172800 NS KANGA.NETOPS.gtefsd.com.
gtefsd.com. 172800 NS ROO.NETOPS.gtefsd.com.
gtefsd.com. 172800 NS WLV.IIPO.GTEGSC.COM.
gtefsd.com. 172800 NS POOH.NETOPS.gtefsd.com.
It would seem that the GTE folks have changed their mind. All these name
servers now report [a-j].root-servers.net as the name servers for ".".
