Power failure causes Internet crisis in Pakistan

LAHORE: Internet services in Pakistan were suspended at 3.40 pm creating a
crisis-like situation in newspaper offices and business circles all over
the country.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd., informed the Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) later at 5.10 that it was facing severe power failure at
ITMC Karachi and the maintenance team were busy in restoring the service.

PTCL.s Crisis Management Centre Karachi said that satellite links had
broken down due to heavy rains and a storm. Reminded that a link could be
established through the Islamabad earth station, they said that the
Islamabad station was only used for voice. The Internet connection could
not be established till late at night.
