AT&T's network status site shows Chicago is isolated from the
rest of the network.  There are various traffic routing issues around
AT&T Chicago and with coast to coast routing (e.g. NYC to San Francisco)

Earthlink is reporting Atlanta Georgia and surronding areas are isolated
on their network, and are having authentication failures.

Sprint is reporting a hardware failure in Tacoma, Washington

I haven't heard of any backhoe or train activity.
