GSM SMS only works when you are in, urm, GSM range. Many many
parts of the world do not have GSM. Many parts of the US
do not have GSM.
And then if you want global access you will need a triband
GSM phone. And intercountry GSM SMS is not currently very
reliable - often loses or delays messages (record for
me is 36 hrs).
I'd recommend if you want pager, you look to something
satellite based.
