Actually, it's a choice. You just tell them you want to keep your POTS when=
you sign up for service. They can definitely bundle Fios TV & POTS. The =
VOIP package might be cheaper. I suspect that's where most people wind up, =
not realizing the difference in service until there is a power outage.

When Verizon installed FIOS in the neighborhood they removed the copper lin=
es to each house. It was understood and accepted that if the household fibe=
r adapters did not receive power the battery would fail in a few hours. Tha=
t the upstream would fail, even for folks who took measures to continue to =
power the fiber adapter, was unexpected and very unfortunate. If they can r=
un a copper pair back to a powerable location then it escapes me why they c=
an't do the same with a single strand of fiber.
