Despite the prediction that IP over ATM will disappear by this spring, it's
worth noting that the ATM NAPs are definitely functioning and carrying
rapidly increasing amounts of traffic. Also, Sprint is providing the ATM
backbone for the Energy Sciences network, ESnet, which a very successful,
nationwide, IP/ATM network. I'm sure that both Sprint and the Department of
Energy would be surprised to learn that they will swap out the backbone by
this spring.
