We've used them extensively in our network for years (we have about 2,600 o=
f them in the network). They actually used to be Ceterus devices (it's pos=
sible that Hatteras merged with Ceterus or something, but I'm not up on my =
vendor acquisition current events). We mostly use the UTS 810 and UTS-900 =
models. To be honest with you they work fine, but once something goes wron=
g, it's pretty bad because they are kind of flaky. We've had to simply reb=
oot a lot of them to get the problem fixed, rather than actually figuring o=
ut what is really wrong with them and fixing that so it doesn't happen agai=
n. We get lots of trouble tickets for speed issues from customers who have=
them on their circuits, that's for sure. If I were you I'd probably go wi=
th Aktino products. We have a ton of those too, and I've never really had =
a problem with them.
Thanks,

Maybe I'm just not in the know on this but if these prefixes/ASes shouldn't=
be seen on the internet, shouldn't there be more of a public flogging to r=

I've been working with them (it's really the Hatteras Networks products) si=
nce before the acquisition. I don't have much to compare to in terms of ex=
perience with the competing products, but I can tell you we've been very ha=
ppy with the equipment, and I've heard lots of horror stories from Zhone cu=
stomers. Hatteras' support was also phenomenal. I haven't seen any change=
yet since the acquisition except we have a different sales guy.
The biggest challenge is that when dealing with 3rd party (iLEC) copper pai=
rs, you really don't know what you are going to get until you turn up the c=
ircuit. There can also be a lot of fingerpointing when things break becaus=
e the circuits you buy from the iLEC are generally cheap and don't have ver=
y high requirements for when the techs test and accept the circuit.
Hope that helps,
-Scott
