My friends all seem to be using ubiquiti wi-fi stuff lately.

Somehow I've gotten on these guy's (paper catalog) mailing list.  Not
cheap, and I've never actually used them...  Also there are other
vendors in the industrial-electronics arena:

Don't know about their quality either, but in the industrial-electronics
field one doesn't last long with bad stuff.
