Folks,

This is a slightly edited, and _unsigned_ resend of my note of the=20
8th. In an effort to "unbury the lede", the bank routing info is at=20
the top of the post, as well as the bottom ;-)

Bank: SOGEBANK

I appreciate the anonymous offers, of money, time, and talent that=20
have been sent me. The money should go to the address above, unless=20
this is too cumbersome, in which case drop me a line and I'll work=20
something out.

Those of you with corporate responsibility contacts within your=20
employers or clients, if you would write a "why network continuity is=20
a good thing" cover and forward this internally, that could add to the=20
amount AHTIC collects through this public ask.

I've posted an HTML version here:

The text version follows.

Project Title: Adopt-an-Haitian-Internet-technician-or-facility

Project Description: The project aims to collect money and telecom=20
gear to provide mid-term financial aid to IT technicians that have=20
been affected with their families during the January 12, 2010=20
earthquake. Money, telecoms gears, time, software, etc will serve to=20
setup technology community centers to support schools, universities,=20
vocational centers that have collapsed.

Begin Date
February 2010

End Date
August 2010

The Context: On the January 12, 2010, Haiti one of the poorest country=20
in the world is hurt by a 7.3 Earthquake that caused major damage to=20
Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, Leogane and other settlements around. Many=20
notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed,=20
including schools, universities, vocational schools even the=20
Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. Among those killed are a=20
lot of technicians, students, teachers.

Many countries responded to appeals for humanitarian aid, pledging=20
funds and dispatching rescue and medical teams, engineers and support=20
personnel. Communication systems, air, land, and sea transport=20
facilities, hospitals, schools, universities, and electrical networks=20
had been damaged by the earthquake, which hampered rescue and aid=20
efforts; confusion over who was in charge, air traffic congestion, and=20
problems with prioritization of flights further complicated early=20
relief work. As rescues tailed off, supplies, medical care and=20
sanitation become priorities. Among them we also need to address=20
education on a mid term run. With a lot of destroyed schools and dead=20
teachers e-learning can be a good way to overcome this problem.

Deliverables and criteria for close-out

The projects has 2 majors deliverables:

    1. Providing financial support to at least 50 technicians whose=20
houses have been destroyed during the seism. The idea is getting them=20
a job so they don=E2=80=99t have to worry about their family basic needs =
and=20
keeping them on their workplace
    2. Setup mobile IT community centers to provide IT services to=20
schools and universities.
    3. Contents production for e-learning

The project boundaries: This project aims to provide technical support=20
to teachers helping them putting their courses online or on DVD and=20
make it available for remote schools or schools whose teachers have=20
been killed during the quake. Data Center in a box will facilitate=20
access to those courses by the students. Project will be conducted in=20
joint venture with the Ministry of Education that will define the=20
priority based on must affected area and teacher availability.

The main risks: The main risk of this project is not having enough=20
funds to address all the needs in supporting the schools in producing=20
online courses because it=E2=80=99s a well-known fact that in schools in =
Haiti=20
adopted their own curriculum ignoring sometimes the official one. The=20
second concern

Budget and resources: ($, people, equipment, facilities, software, etc.)

     * 100,000.00 USD for salaries to support technicians and their=20
family to get them back on track
     * 5 contents production units
     * Production software
     * Management software
     * 10 data center in a box

People interesting in working in Haiti can send me a skills and=20
availability statement too, but what is needed soonest is a budget=20
that can be applied to existing backfill cash needs passed through the=20
AHTIC.
