1) Hire someone that has done this before.  There're many things to be aware of.

2) Get a different provider.  Anyone that said it "could be hours for BGP to fully converge" is misleading you.  Especially, if you're a new customer to them.  That's a bad omen for things to come.

This can be done with very minimal impact.
