FWIW, FF3.0/Win dealt with that properly for me.
It also deals properly, on the same machine, with several internal
webservers, which I also hit with one-word names, but which actually
resolve, of course, by the search list on the machine.
So FF3, at least, will try to resolve oneword as oneword., before
moving along.
