There is a very interesting story at
http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/07/education/07COLL.html about a new
spirit of cooperation between NYU and Columbia, which refers multiple
times to how cooperation between MIT and Harvard has benefited both
schools and is a model for the two New York schools. Worth a read.
