The AJC wildly overreacted, and this blurb you sent is inaccurate to
the point of being irresponsible on the part of the AJC. It is no
surprise that their description contained no specifics. Here are some:
1: "distribution" is not an accurate term. The Arab Students United
were not distributing the article, say, as a flyer. It was forwarded
via email by an individual member to their list. A Jewish group
complained when they saw it on the web. The ASU promptly removed if
from the website, which is why the Jewish group (Torchpac) did not
file a judicial complaint with the school.
2: While David Duke is a deplorable human being, the piece of his that
was forwarded was not really anti-Semitic. It *was* extremely critical
of the state of Israel and their lobbies in the United States. It did
claim that U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East led to the Sept. 11
attacks. He did *not* put in racist or anti-Semitic overtones, for
once. His arguments in this article, right or wrong, were political,
not ethnic or racial, and supported with facts, complete with
footnotes.
In fact, it is a very sad state of affairs when scum like David Duke
has more sense then, um, some MIT students:
The bad news is that no matter how many billions of dollars the
government spends or how many bombs it drops, it is impossible to
completely protect ourselves from these great dangers.
And more decency:
It hurts my heart to think that a vast majority of the American people
take exactly the same view toward innocent human life as did the
terrorists of September 11.
