32bit apps aside, some of the features iOS 11 will introduce include a completely revamped version of Siri, a long overdue Dark Mode, advanced augmented reality features (bolstered of course by 3D cameras on the iPhone 8), facial recognition, and support for multiuser FaceTime calls. With WWDC 2017 now less than two months away, we’ll hopefully start hearing some more tidbits about iOS 11 in the coming weeks.

It’s been estimated that there are currently 187,000 32bit apps on the App Store. Come September of 2017, there’s good reason to believe they’ll be toast.

In late 2014, for example, Apple began alerting developers that updates to existing iOS apps after June 1, 201 had to include 64bit support. This past January, with the first beta release of iOS 10.3, Apple began issuing a stark warning to users who fired up old 32bit apps, alerting them that such apps “will not work with future versions of iOS” and that the app developer “needs to update it to improve its compatibility.”
