; </p> <p>An acrochordon is a small, soft, common, benign, usually peduncul=
ated neoplasm that is found particularly in persons who are obese. It is us=
ually skin colored or hyperpigmented, and it may appear as surface nodules =
or papillomas on healthy skin. Most acrochordons vary in size from 2-5 mm i=
n diameter, although larger acrochordons up to 5 cm in diameter are sometim=
es evident. The most frequent localizations are the neck and the axillae, b=
ut any skin fold, including the groin, may be affected. Birt-Hogg-Dube (BHD=
) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by ski=
n tumors, including multiple fibrofolliculomas, trichodiscomas, and acrocho=
rdons. These patients tend to develop renal and colonic carcinomas. The def=
ective gene in BHD syndrome has been identified and is suspected of being a=
tumor suppressor gene. Several mutations of the BHD gene have been reporte=
d. All skin lesions in the syndrome may actually represent fibrofolliculoma=
s cut in various planes of section. Related Medscape articles of possible i=
nterest include Premalignant Fibroepithelial Tumor (Pinkus Tumor), Benign V=
ulvar Lesions, and Skin, Benign Skin Lesions.</p></td>=20

<td colspan=3D"2" id=3D"yushiguw"><p>Interestingly, skin tags have bee=
n used for reconstruction of the ear and of the nose, particularly for dist=
al nasal reconstruction Previous theories have suggested that a localized p=
aucity of elastic tissue may result in sessile or atrophic lesions. It is a=
lso thought that pendulous variations may be caused by losses of large conf=
luent areas of elastin; however, a 1999 study of elastic tissue in fibroepi=
thelial polyps (FEPs) showed no significant abnormalities. A cross-sectiona=
l study of adult patients at a university teaching hospital, including 98 p=
atients and 103 controls, found that the presence of multiple skin tags was=
strongly associated with insulin resistance, irrespective of other risk fa=
ctors. In another survey, 113 patients with skin tags and 31 healthy subjec=
ts were evaluated. This work linked obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, in=
sulin resistance, and elevated high-sensitive C-reactive protein with skin =
tags, suggesting they may serve as a marker of increased risk of atheroscle=
rosis and cardiovascular disease. Frequency Acrochordons have been reported=
to have an incidence of 46 in the general population.<br /> Sex An equal p=
revalence of acrochordons exists in males and females. Age When present, ac=
rochordons increase in frequency up through the fifth decade. As many as 59=
of persons may have acrochordons by the time they are aged 70 years. Progn=
osis Acrochordons are benign tumors. On rare occasions, histologic examinat=
ion of a clinically diagnosed FEP reveals a basal or squamous cell carcinom=
a. In one study, 5 of 1335 clinically diagnosed FEP specimens were malignan=
t. Four were basal cell carcinomas, and one was a squamous cell carcinoma i=
n situ. None of these specimens was submitted by a dermatologist. This stud=
y concluded that clinically diagnosed FEPs have a low probability of having=
malignant characteristics on histologic examination. As we age, many of us=
will develop skin tags. Yes, they are more prevalent in people who are ove=
rweight or obese, in those who are pre-diabetic or diabetic, and in the eld=
erly. But the truth is, nearly half of us will have one or more by middle a=
ge. Pregnancy, steroid use, genetics, and the HPV virus also increase the i=
ncidence of skin tags. What Are Skin Tags? Skin tags are small flaps of ski=
n that usually appear in places where skin rubs against skin, such as the e=
yelids, underarms, groin, neck, under breasts, or in skin folds.. Although =
they can reach up to one half an inch in width, they are usually no bigger =
than an apple seed. They are often attached to the body by a " stalk&q=
uot; of skin, smaller than the body of the tag. They may be a little darker=
than normal skin color or may be the same color as the skin.</p> <p>Skin t=
ags are known by many names: acrochordon cutaneous papilloma cutaneous tag =
fibroepithelial polyp fibroma molluscum fibroma pendulum papilloma colli so=
ft fibroma Templeton skin tag Skin tags are benign skin tumors that do not =
pose a problem unless their appearance is disturbing or if they are in a pl=
ace where friction causes discomfort or shaving is problematic. They can, h=
owever, rarely be associated with Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome and Polycystic ov=
ary syndrome. Conventional Treatment for Skin Tags General treatment is rem=
oval via surgery (just cutting or clipping), freezing, or burning. Alternat=
ive Treatment for Skin Tags<br /> When it comes to natural treatments, all =
are not created equal. A number of natural treatments cause skin tags to dr=
y up and fall off, but many of them are slow, taking weeks to months to pro=
duce results. In addition, some require application many times a day. Natur=
al remedies include: Apple cider vinegar Banana peel Castor oil Dandelion j=
uice Garlic Lemon juice Oil of oregano Tea tree oil Of the choices, castor =
oil seems the easiest to use, and it has the added benefit of not irritatin=
g surrounding tissues. Just wash and dry the area; apply castor oil five or=
more times a day. Apple cider vinegar, dandelion juice, and lemon juice ar=
e used the same way, simply apply several times a day. To use oil of oregan=
o, mix with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) with a 1 to 2 ratio (2 drops o=
f oil of oregano to 4 drops of oil). To use tea tree oil, mix with a few dr=
ops of water. Garlic can be applied as a sliver with a bandage or as a past=
e of crushed garlic, though be aware that many complain of a burning sensat=
ion and skin irritation. A piece banana peel can be taped to the site at ni=
ght, the inside of the peel against the skin. Most of these natural remedie=
s take weeks of diligent application before you see results. Conclusion Acc=
ording to the odds, if you have skin tags you may be pre-diabetic or have b=
een diagnosed with type II diabetes, and you are struggling with your weigh=
t.</p> <p> </p></td>=20
