confirmed: dr. appelbaum joins us in both the e-club 6-7pm today,
tuesday, in our usual small lecture hall 56-114, and later in
our start-up seminar, sem089, from 7-9pm in room 56-191 ...

all are welcome to attend and participate; new mit and
cross-registered harvard students encouraged, as always!

good morning all-

after a long and interesting chat with dr. JACOB APPELBAUM, phd,
he's decided to postpone his return to florida and stay in cambridge
through wednesday morning, at least, and visit with us tonight in
both the e-club and the seminar, which i for one would like to
devote to hearing about his company ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT,
and current projects, most timely perhaps his development of A NEW
SMALLPOX VACCINE, and the prospects for creating one or more new
start-up companies, perhaps to be located in cambridge, and in which
some of us may wish to participate as advisors, partners and
or as investors ...

dr. appelbaum is the president and co-founder of NOVENTOR BIOTECHNOLOGY
CORPORATION as well as advanced technology development, inc.  atd is
a `diversified technology consulting and development firm with expertise
in biotechnology, industrial applications of electron and ion
accelerators, clean energy and environmental technologies, freeze
drying, etc ... clients include the u.s. government and
fortune 500 companies ...

`jacob received his phd in theoretical physics in 1978 from the
world-renowned scientific institution BUDKER INSTITUTE OF NUCLEAR
PHYSICS (the binp) of the RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
in novosibirsk, russia ...

`in 1993 he co-founded WIRELESS NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES , inc, of vienna,
virginia, where he was vp for business development; sold in 1995 ...

`appelbaum's clients include bord na mona of ireland, eastman kodak,
emergency-one, oregon feeze dry, polaroid corporation, scientific-
atlanta,saic, textron, titan and more ... on the government agencies
as clients list are included the nasa/jet propulsion lab, the dod,
the bmdo, the doe/llnl and several related academic institution labs ...

`his professional interests include the areas of thin film deposition
techniques, hydrogen as a fuel, plasma physics, and biotechnology
and human health as applied to the mitigation of bio-warfare and
reducing the spread of disease ...

`dr. appelbaum has held several academic appointments including
senior research scientist in the college of engineering at cal-state
at long beach and research professor at the innovative nuclear
space power institute at the college of engineering of the
university of florida, gainesville (home to his start-up companies) ...

`prior to his emigration to the u.s. in 1987, jacob was a senior
research scientist at binp, novosibirsk, russia; he is listed
in multiple markus editions of who's-who in america, who's-who in
the world, who's-who in engineering and is a member of the
american physical society, american nuclear society, aaas, and
the new york academy of sciences ... '

this evening please welcome jacob appelbaum in both the e-club 6-7pm
in 56-114, and immediately after in our start-up seminar, sem089,
from 7-9pm, located just down the hall in 56-191 ...

i hope everyone with whom i spoke or exchanged mail the past couple
of days has had an opportunity to be in touch personally and
perhaps already meet privately with dr. appelbaum, and that we'll
have an informative and lively meeting and class tonight!
