of Amazon.com s Alexa personal assistant in its vehicles to allow drivers =

ncorporate a technology initially targeted for home use. The expanding alli=
ance between Ford F, . and Amazon AMZN, +., announced on Wednesday at the C=
ES tech show in Las Vegas, underscores the importance to both automakers an=
d Internet commerce companies of connecting consumers on the move to a rich=
er array of digital services. Don Butler, Fords executive director of conne=
cted vehicle and services, told Reuters the technology represented the deep=
est integration of any OEM carmaker inside a vehicle with Alexa. The two co=
mpanies are talking about how to take the Alexa partnership further, accord=
ing to Butler. Digital assistant is one tool that is increasingly prevalent=
in the industry, he said. Rival General Motors GM, . plans to roll out IBM=
s Watson artificial intelligence software in its OnStar system early next y=
ear in order to market services to drivers in their cars. Similarly, Daimle=
rs MercedesBenz will use Alphabets Google Assistant, a rival product, to le=
t car owners interact with their vehicles from home via Google Home. Fords =
move follows its October announcement that it would use Alexa in three of i=
ts vehicle models by the end of to allow drivers to communicate with their =
smart home devices, such as heaters, lights or security systems. Automotive=
personal assistants are being studied by every major automaker, according =
to Gartner research director Michael Ramsey, who said: Theres a lot of vett=
ing going on. One company that stands to benefit is Nuance Communications. =
The supplier to Ford, GM and other carmakers provides natural language spee=
ch command technology to allow drivers to speak more or less conversational=
ly to digital assistants. Nineteen percent of the cars that use Nuances tec=
hnology over the past years have come out just in the past year, said Fatim=

n auto companies must make is whether to give consumers a version of the sm=

oftware for hardcore gaming enthusiasts, is today unveiling two of its late=
st products aimed at ramping up the immersive gaming experience. And surpri=
singly, given how much else weve seen in this area this week already at CES=
Razer is not launching yet another virtual reality tool. Project Ariana is=
a new in room projector that expands your gameplay with a flood of lights,=
colors and high definition sound. And Project Valerie is Razers latest lap=
top that gives a new meaning to the concept of widescreen: its display fans=
out triptych style to give a portable computer owner use of three screens =
instead of just one. Razer is also opening up its Chroma 16.8 color palette=
the colorful flashes that Razer builds into its computers and peripherals =
that respond to gameplay so that it can be used by third parties. Early ado=
pters, Razer said, include Lenovo, NZXT, Antec, Lian Li, Wicked Lasers and =
Nanoleaf. The two hardware products are being unveiled today at CES in Las =
Vegas, but the Valerie laptop will not ship until later this year and is st=
ill missing details for several of its specs (including battery life). Mean=
while, Ariana is being termed a concept design that doesnt have a rough del=
ivery date. In fact, even the display of it here at CES has been down to th=
e wire, and we werent able to get our own video and photos ahead of the new=
s coming out. We will be doing that and talking to Razers founder and CEO, =

ana view 4For now, one of the most notable aspects of Ariana (a model of th=
e projector shown here) is that it shows how Razer is expanding some of the=
concepts that have been hallmarks for the company, and also how its using =
some of the tech that it has been picking up by way of acquisitions. Razers=
Chroma lighting technology forms the basis of the lights and colors emitte=
d by the Ariana projector, filling up a room with the same kind of flashes =
of light that appear on Razers keyboards and other hardware. Chroma has bee=
n a popular feature to date: Razer said that some 5 devices have already be=
en sold with it built in. And while Razer has not made a big song and dance=
about this detail, it turns out that the Ariana has been built with THX so=
und technology. You might recall that Razer acquired the iconic audio compa=
ny and brand late last year with an intention of expanding its business bey=
ond its traditional range of peripherals and traditional gaming audience. A=
riana is one example of how that will be carried out, ideally with a networ=
k of other hardware and software makers to made it more widely adopted. Pro=
ject Ariana is a concept design that showcases the power and potential of t=
he Razer Chroma platform in the pre VR world in bridging the gap between ga=
