I hadn't realized that they did make interviews non-mandatory.
It seems to me that these would be the single most essential way of
finding the "true MIT students" out of the millions of overacheivers
runnign around high schools these days.
So, she doesn't sound so bad now. But this way of viewing the students
as "kids" that need to be protected by the "adults" really needs to
go. If you take that attitude completely out of her article, it
suddenly sounds much more reasonable.
Who do we contact about getting on this committee, and what exactly is
it responsible for? With any luck, I'll be doing a thesis + ZERO
classes next term, so I might actually have time to add a committee to
my schedule. :)
