Specifically, we ask that you would Provide long term fiscal stability Reject proposals to increase taxes on the oil, gas and mining industries Develop a tax credit program that both attracts investment and is one the state can afford Honor the commitments the state has made and Promote Alaska as a great place to do business We look forward to working with your administration to promote these projects and policies. October 4, 2016 Posted in News Maine event. Officials from the Arctic Councils eight member nations, as well as a host of non governmental groups, will meet in Portland from Tuesday through Thursday. U.S. ambador for Oceans and Fisheries David Balton will chair the meeting, which is expected to focus on climate change, shipping, energy and the Arctics indigenous groups. Its the first time the council has held the forum on U.S. soil outside Alaska or our nations capital.
State incentives played a role in the discovery, Musselman said. Without the state tax credit programs, none of this wouldve happened, and Im not sure Caelus wouldve come to explore in Alaska, he said in the announcement. Headlamp has already made its voice heard on the discovery, but its worth repeating our 600 members and their 25,000 employees have been hurting. Low oil prices and an unstable business climate have led to thousands of lay offs. A find like this brings hope. Brigham A. McCown, who previously served as the first acting administrator and interim CEO of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) recently opined on the need for offshore infrastructure in the Alaskan Arctic. According to McCown, The critical point is that the Administration should be looking for ways to stimulate, not impede, industry from making investments in the Arctic. Given the very long lead in times needed to develop offshore resources at least a decade according to most industry experts cutting the leases will have precisely the opposite impact. Not only will it effectively ban any offshore activity in the region for the next 20 years, it will start a domino effect across a host of maritime and support services, derailing Alaskas economy and symbolically hanging a Closed for Business sign on the door.

AOGCC Chair Cathy Foerster has told Petroleum News that, bearing in mind the huge number of abandoned wells in the Lower 48, with nobody responsible for their closure, the commission wants to get ahead of the game, making sure that all disused wells in Alaska are appropriately closed off before they are eventually abandoned. Foerster said the commission has already conducted discussions with BP, operator of the Prudhoe Bay field, and has determined with the company a list of wells that could usefully be plugged right away and another list of wells that would be better plugged later. The draft Regional Mitigation Strategy released Friday by the Bureau of Land Management for the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska represents a new approach that will consider ways to compensate for negative impacts right from the beginning of the environmental review process, officials said. The strategy contemplates a series of steps that would compensate for potential impacts to Native subsistence food gathering, cultural activities, local peoples health and the environment in general.
Tomorrow, October 6th, the day a majority of Alaskans will have roughly 1,000 deposited into their bank accounts, is also the day of the Alliances annual Industry Update Forum in Fairbanks. The theme this year Alaska in the Drivers Seat Destination Unknown was chosen because it applies to the biggest issues facing our state; restructuring of the Permanent Fund, an Alaska LNG project, continued exploration for oil, continued production of oil, the size and scope of our government and many other critical issues. With a relatively new administration taking a different turn on the road to resource development, we arent sure where we are headed. The audience will hear from industry leaders about global LNG markets, a North Slope activity update, the exciting new find at Smith Bay by Caelus Energy Alaska, the status of the Donlin Gold project and many other topics.
