So far we've had several RSVPs for food, and several other people have
personally told me they're bringing food. The more, the merrier!

Hello everyone,
I would like to announce a dual-purpose potluck dinner for
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2001 at 6:30pm outside room 10-250:
Student Activism purpose:
I believe that a fun way to show MIT how important food is to us,
especially food that isn't from a dining hall, is to show them that we
really do cook. How can we do that (rhetorical question)? We can hold
a potluck dinner just before the Undergraduate Association's Town Hall
Meeting on October 3rd at 7pm, just outside the venue, room 10-250.
Imagine some large number of MIT students, maybe hundreds, getting
together socially and eating food the likes of which we could never
ever hope to get in a dining hall! Imagine all the *FREE FOOD* (as
long as you bring some to share too)! All it takes is for you, or
your friends, or both, or your living group or cultural group to make
a dish big enough to share with a few people. Then, show up at 10-250
at or before 6:30pm on the 3rd, with your food and some utensils to
eat other people's food with. There's a chance that utensils will be
provided, but due to the semi-last-minute nature of this, it is
uncertain at this point.
Please read on for a little more information, including who you should
RSVP to if you'd like to make a dish. [Although, speaking personally,
I think it will be great if people Just Show Up (TM)]
Also, I'd be happy to discuss this on any of the lists I'm sending
this to where discussion is appropriate. Please be reasonable when
forwarding this message.

Multicultural Fun purpose:
By coincidence, I'm a member of the relatively new student group
Pangaea, and we were just thinking it would be a great idea to have a
multicultural potluck. Here's the Pangaea announcement itself; there's
no need for me to rewrite it:

Subject: ***multicultural potluck on wednesday evening 10/3/01***
Hello everyone,
Pangaea is a student organization dedicated to increasing multicultural
awareness, promoting diversity, and addressing the issue of segregation at
MIT.
In light of these goals, we would like to work with different groups around
campus to host a multicultural potluck which would be open to the entire MIT
community.
*Here's our tentative plan:
*what: multicultural potluck
*who: anyone is invited to cook, eat, or serve!
*when: Wednesday, 10/3/01, 6:30pm
*where: outside of lecture hall 10-250, where the Town Meeting on the Changing
Dining Plan will be held immediately after the potluck at 7:15pm
*why: 1) to promote multicultural awareness and encourage interaction between
diverse individuals and culture groups on campus; 2) to offer some food for
thought for the Town Meeting and vividly illustrate the point that campus
dining
cannot replace culturally rich and less expensive eating options (such as
dining out or cooking)
***If you or any members of your cultural group, living group, or student
activity group, are interested in preparing and serving a food dish (to serve
about 5-10 people) for this multicultural potluck, please RSVP to us at
pangaea-exec@mit.edu ASAP!***
Thank you very much for all your support and cooperation,
The Pangaea Exec Board
- ------------------------------------
I hope to see many people there.
