I forgot to address your last question. My answer is that a class that
considers a wide range of cultures, possibly
to be determined by the nature of the class. By that, I mean that you are
sure to have a good mix of people, so maybe talk about all the cultures
represented by the students. More like a seminar. Obviously you can't cover
every culture, and we can't go into great depth on each one, but the seminar
can initiate learning, and hopefully people will find it interesting enough to
learn more by participating in and attending cultural events on cmapus. Also,
that is where the idea of an Ethnic Studies program comes in. If the seminar
suggested as a GIR is interesting to students and they want to learn more
about a particular culture, they can take classes through that program and
learn more.
