The last major activism of that sort that I can think of is
the anti-apartheid protests that occurred in the early 90's.
The situation included a tent city near Kresge and a sit-in
in the president's office, leading to MIT adopting a policy
on dealing with sit-ins, if I recall correctly.

I can't think of more recent large-scale things, but I could
be forgetting something obvious, since I only got here in 96.
