Dear involved students,
Even with all the applications we've gotten, the Undergraduate
Association Nominations Committee is still looking for a few more
people who want to serve on Institute Committees - who want to help
run MIT and make it a better place.
Brief descriptions of the committees are below, so you can pick those
that suit your interests. The application is available at
http://web.mit.edu/ua/Committees/Nomcomm/www/apply.html and we will be
holding interviews this weekend.
The application deadline is FRIDAY, 6PM.

Co-chairs, UA Nominations Commitee
--------
Undergraduate Association Judicial Board
UA JudBoard, by analogy with the Supreme Court, has final authority
in interpreting the UA Constitution. It is in charge of appointing
the Elections Commission and is the appeals body for election
questions. Members of JudBoard should be knowledgable about the UA
but cannot be concurrently involved in any other part of the UA.
Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid
CUAFA is a faculty committee charged with setting policy for the
Admissions and Financial Aid offices. It doesn't choose which
students are admitted to MIT, but it helps determine what kind of
students are admitted.
Baker Foundation
The Baker Foundation is an independent undergraduate group which
fosters and recognizes good teaching and educational innovation.
It sponsors the Baker Teaching Award, given for conspicuously
effective undergraduate teaching. The Foundation also funds
various projects selected by the undergraduates involved.
MacVicar Advisory Committee
The MacVicar Advisory Committee meets in the fall to nominate
excellent teachers as MacVicar Faculty Fellows. President Vest
then selects the fellows, who get a grant and recognition at
the annual MacVicar Day celebration.
HASS Overview Committee
The HASS Overview Committee has general oversight of the HASS
part of the curriculum and is in charge of certifying subjects
as HASS-Ds. With the new Communications Requirement, the
committee is likely to be working on how to integrate that into
the rest of the curriculum.
Committee on Student Information Policy
MIT has a lot of information about its students, and CSIP
determines how that information can be used and by who. It's
a relatively new committee.
ROTC Oversight Committee
The ROTC Oversight Committee discusses issues relevant to ROTC
at MIT. For instance, a couple of years ago they were
discussing how to deal with ROTC's policy on homosexuality
violating MIT's Nondiscrimination Statement.
Committee on Foreign Scholarships
The Committee on Foreign Scholarships helps determine who MIT
nominates for awards such as the Truman Scholarships.
