MOSCOW Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Wednesday rejected calls to hold
talks with opposition leaders who have drawn tens of thousands of Russians
to protest rallies to demand free elections and an end to his
12-year rule. The opposition leaders "do not have a common platform, so there
is nobody to talk to," Putin told journalists from state news agencies.Organizers
of the Moscow demonstrations include prominent public figures and representatives of various
opposition groups. But they have passed joint resolutions with a list of
concrete demands, including a rerun of the fraud-tainted Dec. 4 parliamentary election,
the resignation of the Central Election Commission chief and the removal of
barriers that have prevented opposition parties from taking part in elections.Putin on
Tuesday firmly rejected the demands for a rerun of the election. The
government has promised to ease rules for opposition candidates.Putin, who served as
president in 2000-2008, is now seek

support."The state requires candidates to submit petitions with 10,000 signatures from registered
Virginia voters with 400 signatures from voters in each of its eleven
congressional districts.Perry's campaign said it submitted 11,911 signatures for verification. In the statement
announcing the legal challenge, Perry's campaign said only 119,034 Virginians voted in
the 2008 Republican primary, making the requirement of 10,000 signatures "unrealistic and
onerous."Newt Gingrich also failed to qualify for the primary, which is to
be held on Super Tuesday, March 6. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney
and Texas Rep. Ron Paul were the only candidates to make the
ballot.

these deals illegal and has blacklisted the companies involved. The Kurds and Exxon
Mobil appear to be betting the Baghdad government will be forced to
acquiesce. They "are now in a position where they could essentially force Baghdad
to accept the status quo and the two separate regulatory systems that
exist in the country," said Riani.

ished in 2010 in the same journal, politely citing a multitude of
problems with the study's methodology. The Indian researchers responded a month later
with their own two-paragraph letter defending the methodology and calling for a
larger study to establish the superiority of antibiotic treatment over surgery. There's no
word whether that larger study is pending, but the journal's editors retracted
the original article for reasons of alleged plagiarism, stating that "significant portions
of the article were published earlier" by other researchers in 2000 and
1995.#2: Litter breeds crime and discrimination. It sounded so reasonable: Graffiti and litter
in urban settings can trigger changes in the brain that can lead
to crime, hatred and discrimination. Alas, the senior author of this April
2011 paper in Science, Dutch social psychologist Diederik Stapel, might have fabricated
much of the data. The journal Science retracted the paper in November upon
realization that

APJoe Perry and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler got
engaged to his long term girlfriend Erin Brady over the Christmas holidays,
TMZ reported.Brady, 38, was spotted wearing a large diamond ring, which sources
say was an engagement ring, as the couple spent Christmas Day on
the Hawaiian island of Maui.It is not clear whether the "American Idol"
judge proposed before or after their Christmas vacation, but Tyler's family are
reportedly furious about the news as they do not like Brady, according
to the gossip site. Some of the rocker's relatives are allegedly upset that
the 63-year-old singer did not tell them he planned to pop the
question until after the proposal.Several members of the Tyler family have apparently
clashed with Brady in the past, with one source telling TMZ, "She's
just been mean to the family."Tyler, who has been married twice before,
has yet to comment.

APNovember 3, 2009: Sen. Ben. Nelson talks to reporters about health care
on Capitol Hill. WASHINGTON Democrats lamented U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson's decision
to retire rather than seek a third term in Nebraska, fearing the
move sets up Republicans for an easy and crucial victory in their
effort to reclaim control of the chamber next year.Nelson, the lone Democrat
in Nebraska's five-member congressional delegation, faced a tough re-election campaign against a
large group of Republican challengers who have spent the past several months
attacking his support for President Barack Obama's health care overhaul and federal
stimulus legislation.Republicans must net four seats to take back the Senate in
2012, and Nebraska now looks to be an easy pickup. There are
no Democrats in line to take Nelson's place in the increasingly conservative
state. He joins several other Democrats to retire from the Senate, including
Virginia's Jim Webb and North Dakota's Kent Conrad. After mont
