nd drones to stop ships from sailing through the narrow waterway.Iran's navy
claims it has sonar-evading submarines designed for shallow waters of the Persian
Gulf, enabling it to hit passing enemy vessels.A closure of the strait
could temporarily cut off some oil supplies and force shippers to take
longer, more expensive routes that would drive oil prices higher. It also
potentially opens the door for a military confrontation that would further rattle
global oil markets.Iran claimed a victory this month when it captured an
American surveillance drone almost intact. It went public with its possession of
the RQ-170 Sentinel to trumpet the downing as a feat of Iran's
military in a complicated technological and intelligence battle with the U.S.American officials
have said that U.S. intelligence assessments indicate the drone malfunctioned.

of the world.Exxon Mobil has not commented on the deal since it
was announced by the Kurds in mid-November. Officials from the company did
not respond to requests for comment. If the deal goes forward, it would
be an enormous vote of confidence for the Kurds' oil policy and
could open the door for other majors to jump in."This is a
further step for the Kurds' autonomy in the federated Iraq," Theodore Karasik,

suggests any additional political fallout will be limited.Several officials including a
former Communist Party secretary of the Shanghai Railway Bureau were ordered dismissed
from their party posts, a penalty that is likely to end their
career advancement. Others received official reprimands but there was no mention of
possible criminal charges. The bullet train, based on German and Japanese systems, is
one facet of far-reaching government technology ambitions that call for developing a
civilian jetliner, a Chinese mobile phone standard and advances in areas from
nuclear power to genetics. The bullet train system quickly grew to be the
world's biggest but has suffered embarrassing setbacks. After the Wenzhou crash, 54
trains used on the Beijing-to-Shanghai line were recalled for repairs following delays
caused by equipment failures.Critics complain authorities have spent too much on high-speed
lines while failing to invest enough in expanding cheaper, slower routes

large-scale event honoring Vietnam veterans was not held until 1982, when thousands
marched in Washington for the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Parades

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Officials in Chattanooga say a church-run nightclub where nine
people were shot and wounded has been the scene of violent incidents
in the past.Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said Tuesday that the club
had been the site of shootings, stabbings, fights and assaults since 2006.City
spokesman Richard Beeland said city legal officials are reviewing options following the
Christmas morning shooting.Authorities say the shooting followed a fight at Club Fathom,
where some 400 teens and adults were attending a Christmas party.
No arrests have been reported.Tim Reid, the pastor of the church that
runs the nightclub, did not respond to an after-hours email Tuesday from
The Associated Press seeking a response to comments of police and city
officials.Mosaic Church runs the club as a youth outreach.
