<font style="color: #FCFCFC">ey expect the federal government's decisions to set new national standards for
health insurance.Under the law, the benefits package must include such fundamentals as
inpatient and outpatient care, emergency services, maternity and childhood care, prescription drugs,
preventive screenings and labs.It must cover mental health and substance abuse treatment,
as well as rehabilitation for physical and cognitive disorders. Such add-ons are
often not fully covered by frugal plans that are now the best
that many small businesses can afford.Traditionally regulated by the states, private insurance
benefits vary widely across the country.Large companies can opt out of most
state rules.Consumer advocates had hoped Obama would set a robust standard for
the nation as a whole. But his administration only met them part way."The
essential health benefits package will for the first time define a minimum
standard for health insurance coverage," said Stephen Finan of the American Canc
LAMEZIA, Italy -- Authorities intercepted letters containing bullets sent to former Italian
prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and his successor, Mario Monti, the ANSA news
agency reported Friday.Ten envelopes containing the bullets were intercepted by police in
the southern Italian city of Lamezia. Some of the envelopes, discovered late
Thursday, were addressed to the editors of major national newspapers in Italy. The
letters were sent by the Armed Proletarian Movement, a little-known far-left group
in Italy, AFP reported.Threatening notes were found in the envelopes addressed to
Berlusconi and Monti, reading, "Reconsider the austerity plan or we'll make you
pay."The message added, "We will hit you and it will be a
war to the death. We'll make you curse these measures in your
blood. You will no longer sleep soundly. The bullets are many."Italy's lower
house of parliament was preparing to put Monti's austerity measures to a
confidence vote Friday. The premier has to
e water that has collected in the reactor basements and nearby storage
areas. Officials, including nuclear and environment minister Goshi Hosono, admitted the possibility
of mechanical glitches, water leaks or other unexpected troubles down the road,
but said ample protection is now in place to avert another disaster.TEPCO
President Toshio Nishizawa apologized for the accident, and vowed to further stabilize
the plant and reduce its radiation release until it is finally closed.Akira
Yamaguchi, a nuclear physicist at Osaka University, said the government's definition of
cold shutdown is disputable."But what's most important right now is that there
aren't any massive radiation leaks any more," he said.Putting longer-term issues aside,
he warned that much of the backup equipment installed at the plant
since the crisis began is makeshift and may break down. He said
winter cold could test their strength.
