For a special occasion birthday dinner, Seasonal Pantry can't be beat. You can get great food all over the city, but the experience of sitting around 1 table, ooohing and aghhhing the same culinary surprises with a mix of 12 friends and strangers + the chef (while passers-by gaze jealously in the front window) was truly unique, and made for a more memorable night than waiting in line for 3 hours at the flavor-of-the-month DC restaurant fad.
A solid 4 of the dishes were foogasm worthy - a thick, savory, smoky chicken broth concoction, an artichoke soup with foie foam, an INSANE rabbit dish with shallots & apples served on a biscuity cracker, and a lamb shoulder of the gods with parsnip puree (+ vanilla - brilliant) that brought the house down. A few of the other dishes ranged from pretty good to very good - a house-made naan + indian spiced sauce, a manicotti with pork, a citrusy gelee dessert, and homemade chocolates. Only one of the dishes was a complete miss - an undercooked carrot with a quinoa granola that was neither flavorful nor inspired. All in all, I'd give the food 4 1/2 stars - and admittedly find it rare to have ONE foogasm in a night, let along four (whew!). Well done, SP, well done :).7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
