U.S. Congressional candidate, and former Oregon state Senator, Democrat Suzanne Bonamici. PORTLAND
Democrat Suzanne Bonamici has won a special congressional election to replace
David Wu, an Oregon Democrat who resigned last year after a woman
accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance.Bonamici was the favorite in
a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans and where President Barack Obama enjoyed
significant support in 2008. She defeated Republican Rob Cornilles, the owner of
a consulting business who said he was best qualified to create jobs.Bonamici
is a lawyer and a former state senator. She was helped to
victory by a barrage of ads from national Democrats and their allies,
who spent more than $1 million attacking her rival's business record. Republicans
spent far less to boost Cornilles.
APJan. 31, 2012: Director of National Intelligence James Clapper listens to a
question while testifying on Capitol Hill in Washington. An emboldened Iran is "now
more willing" to launch an attack inside the United States, America's top
intelligence official told Congress Tuesday, adding that the global threat posed by
Al Qaeda's central leadership has been diminished.Director of National Intelligence James Clapper
outlined what he described as a "critical transition phase for the terrorist
threat" in testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee. With Usama bin Laden
and many of his former deputies dead, Clapper said the group's leadership
is thinned, its capabilities "degraded" and its focus on "smaller, simpler plots.""Al
Qaeda core's ability to perform has weakened significantly," he said.At the same
time, Clapper described the threat from Iran as one on the upswing.
In a lengthy document submitted to Congress, Clapper said last year's alleged

You may idly wish you could hear what others are thinking
yet write off telepathy as science fiction. But one day, the ability
to read peoples minds may not be a talent reserved for psychics
and the X-Men.A group of neuroscientists at the University of California, Berkeley,
reported they may have come up with a scientific way to read
peoples minds.Led by post-doctoral researcher Brian Pasley, the scientists have developed a
method for deciphering the electrical signals in a persons brain as they
listen to words or conversation.Upon figuring out these signals, they were then
able to use them to recreate the imagined speech of the same
person. The secret to their method lies in the temporal lobe of the
brain, which is used in auditory perception. When a person hears a
